HARBOR/ESTUARY PROGRAM

The Morro Bay National Estuary and Harbor make up the crown jewels of the Central Coast. As most wetlands are being filled in, the Morro Bay ecosystem thrives. While being the home of dozens of endangered species it is also a spawning grounds, nursery for marine fisheries, a commercial fishing harbor and a center for recreation and education. Sea Life Studies takes you out of the water to observe firsthand nature's wonders.

THE HARBOR/ESTUARY PROGRAM: Participants assemble at Virg's landing for instructions, to fill out paperwork and to board the vessels.

Multimedia Presentation: Docents from the Natural History Museum are available to give a preprogram, multimedia presentation about the Estuary, the Harbor, their histories and the parts they play in the tidal interaction.

On The Water: Coast Guard Certified vessels provided and operated by Virg's Landing cover the entire Harbor and accessible areas of the Estuary. Docents are available to describe and answer questions about anything participants may have. They'll discuss: Morro Rock, Morro Dunes Natural Preserve, Heron Rookery, Elfin Forest, Tidelands Park, Duke Energy Plant, Chorro Flats, The Harbor, Tides, The artificial Jetties and much more. While on=board, you will encounter all the life that inhabits the area. Marine mammals, wading and water birds, migratory birds, sea life, indigenous plant life, shell fish, mollusks, crustaceans, jelly fish and things you've never seen.

Return: The boats arrive back at Virg's Landing where the program participants disembark.

Cost: $12.00 per person
